Chartered Accountants of Canada

logo.gif (6467 bytes)One of the leading and largest professional accounting bodies in the world, the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA, as it is more commonly known) received its federal charter in 1902. Since then, it has been the pre-eminent accounting organization in Canada and has kept pace with the growth of Canada's economy.

The mission of CICA is to serve the interests of society and the CA profession by providing leadership to uphold the professional integrity, standards and pre-eminence of Canada's Chartered Accountants, nationally and internationally.

Today, a key CICA role is the development of accounting and auditing standards — both at home and around the world.

Since its inception in 1902, CICA has experienced steady growth in its membership, from 255 members in 1910 to more than 68,000 in image2small.jpg

Those in public practice are in firms of all sizes, from sole practitioners to large international firms.

CICA's long history of achievement has been the result of the dedicated efforts and vision of its volunteers and staff, and it looks forward to continuing these efforts into the next millennium. CICA will celebrate its first 100 years of service in 2002. It will continue to be guided by its Vision Statement — "The CICA will enhance the CA profession's relevance, attractiveness and pre-eminence by providing leadership and influence to support the functional breadth and technical depth of all members."
