The harsh climate of the north has proved a challenge for home builders. CMHC researchers came up with the "space-frame" foundation. The interconnecting pieces which form the foundation allow the building to absorb the movement of shifting muskeg. It's an imaginative solution to a very Canadian problem and one that may have applications elsewhere.
