None of it would exist were it not for the
dreams, skills, faith and fortitude of founder Joze “Joe” Slobodnik, After taking drafting classes at Central Tech school in Toronto, and honing his skills at Husky Injection Molding Systems, Slobodnik bought his own lathe machine. A year later, the fledgling enterprise grew by one machine and two part-time employees. Top Grade Molds was born. It was 1964. In 1979, Top Grade Molds moved to its present location in Mississauga. Today the company produces molds for industrial containers, consumer products, specialized packaging containers, and more. It employs 120 people, including a few Slobodnik family members. In 1992, president Joe Slobodnik participated in the Canadian Plastics Trade Mission team to the Middle East. Then in 1998, a high-profile Team Canada Trade Mission to Latin America provided a unique opportunity to gain new business contacts and establish ties with related industries. These were proud moments for Top Grade Molds.
Top Grade Molds supports the community by sponsoring local sports teams and clubs, and donating to various charities. In 1999, Joe Slobodnik was appointed Honorary Consul of the Republic of Slovenia. His business experience and active involvement in the Slovenian community serve to strengthen cultural and economic ties for the benefit of both Canada and Slovenia. As Consul, he has also co-hosted trade missions from Slovenia to Canada. From a struggling venture to a major global player, Top Grade Molds has grown into a company of exceptional individuals, guided by a president who sees the possibilities and seizes the opportunities for making positive contributions to the Canadian economy and culture. |
