Walter Construction (Canada) Ltd.

logo.gif (6467 bytes)The WALTER group of companies, deeply rooted in Canadian culture and construction history, has established a legacy that has lived for over a century.

It all began with the Pigott Construction Company Limited, which was founded in Hamilton, Ontario in 1885 where it flourished for over five generations, becoming one of Canada’s largest privately-owned construction companies. The Company’s empire encompassed almost every phase of building and construction, and its fame stemmed from the versatility of the firm in handling a varied range of projects, including the Skylon Tower at Niagara Falls, and the Burlington Skyway Bridge.

In 1960, Pigott Construction amalgamated with Fraser-Brace, a company whose beginnings trace back to 1908, when Charles Edward Fraser from Montreal and image1small.jpg (8908

The tie that binds the impressive historical backgrounds of Pigott Construction and Fraser-Brace to the development of WALTER Construction is W.A. Stephenson Construction (Western) Ltd., founded in Toronto, Ontario in the 1970’s by William Stephenson. In 1986, the company took the name SCI (Stephenson Construction International) Engineers and Constructors Inc., reflecting a more international image. Monumental projects completed include the Olympic Speedskating Oval in Calgary and the Cambie Street Bridge in Vancouver.

In 1993, these three companies amalgamated to form WALTER & SCI Construction. Since its inception, the Company has completed such projects as the Hospital for image2small.jpg (9081 bytes)Sick Children in Toronto, and the first incrementally launched bridge in Canada - the Stoney Trail Bridge in Calgary. In 1997, the name was officially changed to WALTER Construction to reflect the influence of its parent companies, WALTER Group International.

Drawing on the experience of companies that founded the Canadian firm, as well as the expertise and international technology brought by its German counterparts, WALTER Construction prides itself on being effective and efficient. The company that was built on the solid foundation of these values now looks to the future for the challenges that will foster a continued pride in the achievements, and in the heritage, of WALTER Construction.
